July 23, 2011 - SHROPSHIRE BUTTERFLIES: A Poetic and Artistic Guide to the Butterflies of Shropshire by Nadia Kingsley was launched in Save our Butterflies week, priced £11.99.
It is a matt hardback book 170 x 245 mm, 124 pp, containing 75 poems and 69 images, from sixty six contributors including Gillian Clarke, National poet of Wales; Katherine Swift, author of The Morville Hours; Paul Evans, radio 4 naturalist and Country Diary columnist for the Guardian; Peter Boardman, entomologist who works for Field Studies Council; Matthew Oates, the butterfly adviser to the National Trust, TV naturalist and author.
My painting Spring, of the comma butterfly was painted especially for the book.
The painting ‘Every Woman’ has been featured on the cover of Opening the psychological black box in genetic counseling, a research publication by Joël Vos, Leiden University Medical Centre, The Netherlands.
Mr. Vos, who also acquired the original painting, is a winner of the Leo Polak Prize. He included the following statement in the publication:
'To me this piece of art shows the different faces of life that people can be confronted with, for instance when they receive genetic counselling. It is the visualisation of a dual attitude, in which one's light-coloured need for certainty contrasts with the dark-coloured uncertainty of reality.'
